Why change your name?

Parents often wish to change the name of their child or children, from either their birth name, for adoption purposes, or from a name acquired by them upon marriage.

If you are the only person with parental responsibility for the child in question, then this can be a relatively straightforward process and the official documents can be easily prepared. If, however, someone else also has parental responsibility for the child then they too must give permission for the name change and confirm their agreement on the appropriate application form.  Adults, also often wish to change their name.  Please be aware that certain individuals are legally required to inform the police of a name change.

Whatever your circumstances, Freeman Jones Solicitors provide a quick, straightforward, and cost-effective change of name service by assisting you with an un-enrolled change of name deed (we understand these are sufficient for many circumstances BUT it is your responsibility to ensure an un-enrolled deed specifically meets your requirements; due to varying requirements we are unable to provide advice on this) or an enrolled change of name deed including the application to the High Court, publication in the London Gazette  and ensuring that the name is changed quickly and easily.  However in respect of an enrolled change of name deed these often take a long time for the court to process and register (sometimes over 12 months) and so often these are done alongside an un-enrolled change of name deed.

A change of name deed (often also referred to as a deed poll) can be drawn up by one of our expert change of name deed solicitors to ensure its legal status is recognised. Official documents may also need to be provided as part of the change of name deed poll process (e.g. passport, driving license, bank statements, etc.).

1. Un-enrolled change of name deed £275.00.
2. Both an enrolled change of name deed, and an un-enrolled change of name deed, registration of the enrolled version with the High Court, publication of the enrolled version in the London Gazette and providing 5 certified copies of the same £550.00.
3. Enrolled change 0f name deed including registration with the High Court, publication in the London Gazette and providing 5 certified copies of the same £450.00.

In addition:

Regulatory compliance fee of £30.00.

In respect of an enrolled change of name deed there is a court fee of £50.32 (subject to change).

Priority postage fee to send the change of name deed to court £20.00.

Priority postage fee to send the original change of name deed to you £20.00.
